In this vivid and inventive tale, the American West weaves itself into the fantasy genre to create an epic feminist quest filmed on a small budget, an even smaller crew, and mystical amounts of passion and resolve.

When a young handmaiden finds herself in the middle of the Barren Cross with nothing but traumatic wounds (both mental and physical) she must traverse the harsh landscape and master a dangerous magic to destroy the Scarlet Prince’s four statues and avenge the assassinated Queen Emmeline. Locked in a magic mask that steals her voice, Ida Blye discovers her lone-warrior tactics can only get her so far and she must find a new way to defeat the fascist dictator and his terrifying Fester Knight.

Led by a brilliant and largely silent performance by Naomi McDougall Jones (“Bite Me,” “Imagine I’m Beautiful,” viral Ted Talk “What its Like to be a Woman in Hollywood”), “SUFFER” explores why the Hero’s Journey needs an update if we want to inspire rebels of all ages to use their strongest weapon- their collective voices.

In the world of SUFFER we use the following gesture, to show commitment to the Queen and gratitude to the light:

Make a sunburst with your first hand and put to your forehead, palm out.

Then raise your other fist to the first palm.

Thank you!
